Just a Volunteer?
I've heard this cliche' , "I'm just a volunteer". Being a volunteer has its justifications, and rewards. I want to tell you about two very special volunteers, their names are Donna Smeaton, and Carol Loading. These ladies were very special, as they were battling very serious health issues, yet they made it to the shelter 2 to 3 time per week to care for the animals. Both refused to allow their problems keep them from helping those that had needs... I'm talking about the cats and dogs housed at Animal Aid Humane Society.
These ladies never complained about things not being up to par, no; they never complained, they never threw in the towel so to speak, they simply volunteered to help bring those things up to par. Donna's health was failing very fast and Carol was having problems getting a full breath of air, yet both were coming to the shelter, if simply to pet the cats, all the time trying so diligently to masked their pain. They were volunteers to serve those with no voice. Being a volunteer for the animals was their great cause, and they would never resign that.
Both these women had nothing but kind words to speak, and the animal would allow both the temporary medication needed for them to bring forth a smile. It was as though the animals knew their pain, and they all could embellish each other's love. Both of these very special volunteers lost their battle with their illness, and left behind a legacy that should not fade into history, rather it should be the rainbow we all can have, by becoming a volunteer for a great cause.
I cannot think a greater cause then to bring a lonely person a companion that will surrender un-conditional love, or to see a child laugh and play with their four legged friend. Both these volunteers loved to give of themselves to be with the animals and to help those that have no voice, those that totally depend on humans for the right to life. So why not share that excitement by becoming a volunteer for Animal Aid Humane Society? You would be justified in helping animals, while being rewarded by getting to know people just like Donna and Carol, or maybe; you're just like Donna, or Carol, and we would like to get to know you.
We are the volunteers of today; We wont see eye to eye on all issues, we wont agree on how, or what needs to be done, but if we agree to be open-minded about what can be done to best serve the one's we hold dear to our hearts- the animals; -we can and will accomplish great things. Wont you join us?
